Letter to a Christian Pharisee Part 1 - Rich Novek

Let me put it like this, the bible is the wardrobe, the portal through which we pass in order to enter the Narnia of the unseen realm. Don't get stuck in the wardrobe there's not much to see there and besides who wants to be a closet Christian!

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:1-2)

The LAW OF THE SPIRIT OF LIFE...has made us free from THE LAW OF SIN AND DEATH! The ONE perfect law of SEEING GOD ONLY has swallowed up the imperfect law of seeing more than God.

Are we still straining out a gnat while swallowing a camel?

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel.” (Mathew 23:23)

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside, but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside YOU APPEAR TO PEOPLE AS RIGHTEOUS, but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness. (Mathew 23:27-28)

Jesus didn’t commend those who followed the written law! But it’s amazing how He did commend those the world considered despised in His day. A prostitute named Mary Magdalene, a tax collector named Zaccheus, and a Roman Centurion. A man, despised and hated by every son and daughter of David, yet of whom Jesus said; "I HAVE NOT SEEN GREATER FAITH, NOT EVEN IN…ALL OF ISRAEL!" (Luke 7:9)

So much for seeing any religious, cultural, or class favoritism coming from Christ! He never commended anyone except…PEOPLE HE SAW LIVING BY FAITH!

Lifeless “Christian” religion is about believing I have to do something FOR GOD, in order to get something FROM GOD. It’s about trying to add something to the already finished work of Grace! Christian law cannot see TRUE GRACE, so it has no other choice but to serve and worship what it does see. And though it may come to us disguised as a message of Grace, it is law just the same! Living according to the law (of sin and death) is the exact opposite of what Jesus describes as seeing with the “Single Eye.” Grace is the law of the Spirit of Life “IN” Christ Jesus! Grace is available for those who long for the unseen, and call the things that are not as though they are. The Christian law of “doing FOR God” brings condemnation and a sense of being separate from God. The law of sin and death says, “You have to do this and you can’t do that”, but never lets you know either way how much is enough.

We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature…FOR I HAVE THE DESIRE TO DO WHAT IS GOOD, BUT I CANNOT CARRY IT OUT. FOR I DO NOT DO THE GOOD I WANT TO DO, BUT THE EVIL I DO NOT WANT TO DO—THIS I KEEP ON DOING. NOW IF I DO WHAT I DO NOT WANT TO DO, IT IS NO LONGER I WHO DO IT, BUT IT IS SIN LIVING IN ME THAT DOES IT. (Romans 7:14-20)

This is what I call the “Do Gospel!” Paul learned through this struggle that it was no longer Him doing anything, that he had died, and that His life was NOW Christ “IN” Him and as Him! (Galatians 2:20) It was also how he came to his wonderful revelation/proclamation of Romans 8:1-2!

The light of the body is the eye: if therefore…THINE EYE BE SINGLE, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! (Mathew 6:22-23)

Mathew 6:23 is a statement, but could just as easily be a question; If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness? Pretty dark if you still believe you can serve God AND!

The law of sin and death is based on seeing two…sin and death. But it could just as well be called the law of light and darkness, or the law of good and evil, or the law of right and wrong. Because it does not matter what law we still see operating…BECAUSE…The ONE TRUE Law of the Spirit of Life “IN” Christ Jesus trumps all other law, Christian or otherwise! It sets FREE those who are still captive by dead religion, those who are still trying to gain God’s approval by what they do. Christian freedom is seeing ONLY GOD IN ALL THINGS…The Spirit of Life “IN” Christ! It is for FREEDOM he made us FREE! (Galatians 5:1)

"No one can serve TWO MASTERS. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God AND…Money. (Mathew 6:24) Neither can you serve…God AND…, Power, or God AND position, or God AND programs, or God AND religion, or God AND anything else!

If you still see yourself living by the law (of sin and death) you have no other choice than to serve that law. Sin and death is what the law is all about. Because when the Christian believer, who was specifically created to serve and worship God alone, runs after other gods, he becomes what Jesus calls “a house divided!” Contrary to what we have been taught, this passage is not only referencing the corporate church as a whole, but is in fact also talking about the individual believer!

“If you ever forget the LORD your God and follow other gods (plural) and worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed. Like the nations the LORD destroyed before you, so you will be destroyed for not obeying the LORD your God.” (Deuteronomy 8:19-20)

“Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and EVERY CITY OR HOUSEHOLD DIVIDED AGAINST ITSELF WILL NOT STAND. If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. But if it is…”BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD” that I drive out demons (or do anything else), then the kingdom of God has come upon you.” (Mathew 12:25-28)

Jesus gives numerous scriptural references to the believer’s true purpose in the Bible. John 15 talks about the Vine-Branch relationship, or union! In fact, it is in this powerful passage Jesus reveals who we truly are! He says He is the Vine and we are the branch. He says we are the “TWO “IN” ONE!” Two distinct purposes, Him as the Vine and us as the branch, serving the ONE TRUE PURPOSE, which is to feed others! We are ONE “IN” CHRIST. He is the Life giving Vine, the ONE whose sole purpose is to produce fruit, and we are the branch, the channels of His Life, and Only His Life! The ONLY PURPOSE for the Vine- Branch Union is to produce…FRUIT THAT REMAINS! Eternal Fruit! For Others!

The law on the other hand is meant to divide and separate. Its purpose is all about self and is self oriented! For the person still living under the law of sin and death cannot see the Gospel of Grace, which is found “IN” Christ alone! The Gospel of Grace is SEEING the law of the Spirit of Life “IN” Christ Jesus! As long as it is “IN” Christ, it is a law which produces LIFE! And it’s not that the person still trying to follow the law of “doing for God” doesn’t want to SEE GOD’S GRACE, it’s just impossible for him to do so.

God specifically designed us to see ONLY ONE! The serpent came to Adam and Eve in the garden with the temptation to partake of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The temptation to eat of the tree was less about sinful behavior as it was about tempting them to SEE MORE THAN GOD!

"For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and…YOU WILL BE LIKE GOD! (Genesis 3:5)

The serpent’s words to them contained some truth, they always do. Their eyes were opened to SEE good and evil. But the one thing he failed to tell them is that it would be impossible for them to see “good and evil” and see God at the same time! “You will be like God!” Being LIKE GOD is a far cry from being God! And the same lie is trying to be followed by multiplied millions today, only now the message to the church is all about trying to be…”like Christ!”

There is ONLY ONE who can be like Christ, or Christ-like, and that is ONLY Christ Himself!

The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men--robbers, evildoers, adulterers--or even like this tax collector.

The Pharisee stood BY HIMSELF…and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. (or prostitutes or Roman soldiers) I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’ “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ (Luke 18:11-13)

One of these men knew who he truly was apart from God, guess which one?

I thank thee O God that I am not like...(fill in the blank).

This is religion in action, and in all of its glory! It’s seeing division and separation, it’s making distinctions on good and evil, and right and wrong, and it is seeing double!

This Pharisee is really saying; “I thank thee O God that I am superior (separate) in comparison to this person, I am not a part of him! I have my exegesis and my homiletics intact, I am scriptural to the point that every "i" is dotted and "t" is crossed! I am a saved, evangelical, blood bought, Holy Spirit filled… But the reality is he was what Jesus called a whitewashed tomb FILLED WITH DEATH!”

Everything looked good on the outside, but inside where it mattered, there was nothing but DEATH!

And in my trying to serve and worship both Jesus and my own religious self interests, (this form of godliness which has NO POWER), I have no other choice but to live as a house divided! I see and worship TWO! The “Single Eye” Jesus talked about in the Gospel of Mathew is foreign to me!

And no matter how hard I try to please God by what I do or don’t do, I cannot stand in union with Christ or his body! Because, not only am I a house divided against myself and His body, I have also made myself an enemy of the Cross of Christ!

The following passage was written to believers, although saved by Grace, were steeped in the false gospel of “doing for God!” Believers who could not SEE Christ, because their focus was on trying to serve God AND… “earthly things” at the same time and in their own strength!

“For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, MANY LIVE AS ENEMIES OF THE CROSS OF CHRIST. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on EARTHLY THINGS. BUT OUR CITIZENSHIP IS IN HEAVEN (“IN” The Spirit). And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by THE POWER that enables Him to bring everything under His control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like His glorious body.” (Philippians 3:18-21)

This is what Paul meant when he said the letter KILLS!

Today, the foolishness of the message of the Cross, which is the ONLY GATEWAY to our internal revelation of who we are “in’ Christ, has been replaced with the gods of education! There is more education about God today than ever before. There is also more estrangement in the body from God…than there has ever been! The message of the internal revelation of THE LIFE OF CHRIST “IN” the believer has been forsaken!

“For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me (the message of the Cross of Christ) the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out (religious) cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no (Living) water.” (Jeremiah 2:13)

And as much as I love the Holy Bible, I LOVE THE LIVING WORD MUCH MORE! HE IS THE LIFE OF THE WORD AND APART FROM HIM THERE IS NO LIFE! The Word of God “IS” Jesus Christ! THE WORD OF GOD IS THE PERSON OF GOD! His name is…JESUS! Not “it's” name, but HIS NAME! He is more real than the book! HE IS…ALIVE AND ACTIVE AND SHARPER THAN ANY TWO EDGED SWORD! (Hebrews 4:12) THE WORD OF GOD IS A PERSON!

THE LETTER KILLS! (II Cor. 3:6)

AND IT IS ONLY “THE SPIRIT” OF THE WORD WHO GIVES LIFE TO THE WORD!

What do you do with the following verses?

He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and…HIS NAME IS THE WORD OF GOD! (Revelation 19:13)

The WORD BECAME FLESH and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)

I have notated everything I have said throughout this writing with scripture! But more than that I AM LETTING THE "LIVING LETTER" REVEAL Himself through my writing! The letter He is writing on His preferred tablet, MY HEART!

“You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.” (II Cor. 3:3)

“Paul's plea for the Galatians was that "Christ be formed in them." (Gal. 4:19) This was not a desire for regenerative new birth, FOR THEY WERE ALREADY CHRISTIANS, but Paul labored for the INNER FORMATION OF CHRIST'S LIFE in the Galatian Christians that they might be "conformed to the image of the Son." (Rom. 8:29) (James A. Fowler, christinyou.net)

But other than that a Christian's life is pretty identical to a non-Christian's Life in that we all talk work wee and poo in this material universe. So what's the difference. In the end its largely positioning and timing which come from hearts that love God with All their heart.Think of these two scriptures.Paul says I came amongst you to see if I could find Christ crucifoed among you.Put that together with Jesus words "Where the dead body is (instinctively) there the eagles/carrion gather.
Christ living our life is instinctive. If He isn't instinctive,we find ourselves in awkward situations that we of ourselves can't handle even if we try.The Israelites just couldn't go up at Kadesh Barnea into the land, even tho they said to God (late) OK God we'll go up.But it was too late. The window of opportunity had closed and all bar 2 had to die in the wilderness.
So the difference between the 2 walks,Christian and non Christian or "mixed Christian which is functionally atheist" is one of timing. We are what Nancy calls "on location for God" at the right time, with the instinctive goods for the job.
It's not really a "work" as others see it....it really is just a grape...at the end of our twig doing what it naturally does....appearing and swelling according to its natural order.
So without the eye of faith, again an instinctive Christ in us thing, no one can see the Kingdom because its outer form looks well....so normal to an outsider...but really its to do with lots of "connections" that had to be in the right place at the right time to even have existed.
But these "connections" like carrion, gather in their Christ way, instinctively.
That is why, although Satan which means opposer, can put as many roadblocks as he likes....but ultimately this instinctive KINGDOM is unstoppable!See more

"The mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s... people. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is CHRIST "IN" YOU, the hope of glory. He is THE ONE we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone FULLY MATURE "IN" CHRIST. To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy CHRIST SO POWERFULLY WORKS "IN" ME!" (I Cor. 1:26-29)See more

25 November at 14:28 · LikeUnlikeAndre Rabe The new covenant knows of only one valid law - the law of life in Christ Jesus. This has nothing to do with your effort, self discipline or contribution, but everything to do with discovering yourself, your life, in Christ Jesus.

James calls... it the perfect law of liberty. The law of liberty sounds so contradictory. Laws are designed to limit freedom, to restrict movement, to control. But the the law of liberty is very different. In verse 1:23 James says that if any man hears this Word he is like a man that sees the face of his birth as in a mirror. Then James continue by saying that the secret of living according to our original design is looking deeply into the perfect law of liberty … and continuing therein. This law demands that once you see yourself you do whatever you please! God knows that your true self has nothing in itself that is offensive to Him.

The law of life in Christ Jesus, the perfect law of liberty simply states: Know yourself and be yourself. The secret of your life is your union with Christ in God.See more

Any how...Andre's quote: the secret of living according to our original design is looking deeply into the perfect law of liberty … and continuing therein.
I've never put this verse together in my hea...d with If you abide in my Word. (About you) then you are truly my disciples and you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.
Again as I've been posting recently the phrase" and you shall know the truth" is similar to.,,,,, Faith comes by" hearing" and hearing by the Word of God.
Where we do the "knowing" of truth, and the "hearing" of the word is in this underneath layer of us. The layer that gets revelation. The layer that gets imparted to as in the Psalm 42 phrase "deep calls unto deep."
This inner mesh that normally as Rich says sees "two", sees God and. But the pure in heart shall see God. Shall see with a single eye. It's where we do our seeing and knowing that controls whether the King of Glory can come in in that particular incarnation that is referred to in Psalm 24.
Paul said We cast down every speculation and high thing exalted against the Name of God.See more

Loading...Rich Novek Chris, this is where I believe Philippians 3:15-16 also comes into play! It is for freedom He made us free! Free for what? There is where our folly lies, right there!

If I meet someone on the street, within one or two minutes I am askin...g them WHAT THEY DO. So if I meet a person who drives a truck, he becomes a truck driver, or someone who works with wood, he is a carpenter. We have become conditioned in our referring to each other by WHAT WE DO! Is it any wonder why, apart from what they have or what they do, most people today don't really have a clue as to WHO THEY ARE?

The preaching of the Cross, and the message of the Cross are to bring us beyond our controlled way of seeing life in this kingdom of appearances! When we allow the Cross to work it's work, than we see how "death worketh in us but LIFE IN YOU!" Life out of death! How absurd! But that is how God moves us into the "WHO" of our Life "IN" Him! He simply removes all of the "WHAT" we have been trusting in...SO THAT we can finally see the reality of "WHO" WE ARE "IN" HIM!

Freedom? Freedom from the bondage of having an identity built on the sinking sand of my performance! Philippians 3:15-16 is right after the "High Calling" passage of verses 1-14. Our "High Calling" is to SEE AS HE SEES! It is knowing WHO WE ARE as opposed to WHAT WE DO! He (The Spirit) is THE ONE at work, willing and DOING of His good pleasure! He is THE ONLY DOER!

So what do we do? We simply walk "IN" the Freedom of the combined messages of Galatians 5:1 and Philippians 3:15-16! And remember the one WHO we see in the mirror everyday is in reality the exact representation of THE ONE who dwells "IN" US...and mightily!

How wonderful to know our freedom "IN" Jesus... IS TRULY FREE!

If we abide "IN" Him (we rest there) and His Word (Christ Himself) abides "IN" US, then we are able to ask whatever it is WE DESIRE! We NOW see our Life as Him "IN" our form! Or as I heard someone say one time, "It's Him, but it's me, but it's Him!"See more
